CF6-80E Engine stand

  • The Multipurpose Engine stand is very strong and stable platform during on wing engine changing operation and transportation.
  • The Engine stand is mountable/dismountable from the transporter stand (universal base) and normally secured during transport at four positions on the transporter stand by means of locking pins.
  • The engine on the cradle can be protected from damage by means of an optional bumper bar assembly at each end of the stand.
  • The transporter stand is supplied with castor wheels and brakes as standard.
  • The Engine stand is provided with fork truck lifting facilities from either side, which can only be used when the cradle is separated from the transporter, and not when the cradle and engine are secured on the mobile transporter stand.
  • The engine cradle is attached to the transporter stand via four support/locking positions situated on the underside of each longitudinal box section. These are coincident with four brackets on the transporter stand, (which are attached to the transporter stand via shock absorbers), to reduce engine vibration.


Important Information

  • We strictly follow calibration and maintenance plan according manufacturers requirements.
  • Trunnions of the cradle are tested annually as a standard and carefully inspection after every usage
  • Locking pins are regularly inspected for wear and tear or jamming and replaced if necessary.
  • Regular examination of the cradle ensures serviceability of locking pins, swing bolts, nuts and trunnions exist for securing.
  • Storage of Engine stand in-house to avoid corrosion of the trunnions;
  • Care should be taken to ensure that all locking bolts are fitted with serviceable securing pins and that the former are all attached via their respective chains or retaining cables to the rail base.
  • The workshop or maintenance area should possess a flat, clean, hard wearing surface. Ground clearance via castor operation is 4 ins. (100mm), which should be adequate for normal use.
  • Care should be taken when raising or lowering each castor set, that the rail base is adequately supported and that there are no obstructions to the lift, or lowering operation. It is advisable that two operators are present when a castor change takes place.
  • The wheel castors can be rotated by using a special handle (Part 20), and locked in one of four positions by means of an indexing spigot (Part 36). This allows the whole wheel assembly to turn.  (The side plates have two short box sections welded to them to facilitate sufficient leverage). 
  • The special handles are also used for raising and lowering the castors to the secondary locking position, to allow the rail stand to sit directly on the ground.
  • During towing, the forward castors must be in the directional unlocked position, by raising the indexing spigot (Part 36), and the trailing castors are in the directional locked position. When the stand is being manually maneuvered in the hanger or for engine changes, all four castors can be in the directional unlocked position.
  • The engine cradle should be checked for ease of movement along the rail frame, before loading an aircraft engine.
  • Instructions for raising the stand. a) First lock steering in central position and engage wheel lock at one end of stand only. b) Next remove qty 4 off main lock pins (2 positions each axle) c) Raise stand as required using hydraulic pump unit and insert qty 4 off main lock pins in corresponding holes (2 positions each axle) d) After securing lock pins, it is important to open pump valve to relieve hydraulic system.
  • Instructions for lowering the stand. a) First lock steering in central position and engage wheel lock at one end of stand only. b) Then take up weight of stand using hydraulic pump unit c) Next remove qty 4 off main lock pins (2 positions each axle) d) Stand clear of base during the lowering procedure. Open pump valve gradually and gently lower stand to required position Do not at any time adjust the preset green needle valve. e) Insert qty 4 off main lock pins back into store position (2 positions each axle. 
  • There are qty 2 manually operated wheel parking locks, qty 1 on each axle. These must be put into the lock position when the stand is parked or stored unattended to prevent any inadvertent movement.

  • The transporter stand can be raised from the floor with a forklift truck. These positions provide safe lift of the stand with a fork lift.
  • Wheel locks provide controlled stay/movement.
  • Towing speed of the stand during workshop & maintenance ground handling is limited to a maximum of 3 m.p.h. (5 km/h).
