Alternative Ackerman type steering arrangement check should be made that the tow-bars or optional FB7000-500-40LT, FB70000-500-76LT are attached to the stand, and that both hand operated hydraulic pumps and cylinders are working correctly, and that wheel movement, at each end of the transporter stand, is easily achieved.

Each wheel should be set to the required ground clearance, (either 100mm or 250mm), by selecting the correct locking pin position and operating the hand pump accordingly. It is recommended that this operation be carried out by a minimum of two people for ease of operation and safety reasons.

In order to drop the transporter stand completely, (i.e. during transportation), the wheels can be further raised by removing the locking pins altogether, and retracting the cylinders completely.

Ackerman type steering system

Aircraft maintenance should be made only knowing the main technical issues of aviation tools. The tow-bars are attached to the steering assembly by means of a locking pin. It is necessary to lock the pin in position by means of a safety pin. The tow-bar has a simple ‘tug-eye’, and is stowed on the axle assembly when not in use. Locking pin is installed in the steering linkage to become a steering directional lock, when the tow-bars are not in use. To prevent damage to the steering mechanism, this has to be removed to be able to install the tow-bar or steering bar.

Operation of the hand-pumps to raise or lower the stand will give ground clearance of 4” or 10” depending on which locking pin position is selected. By retraction of the cylinder and no locking pin inserted, the stand will sit directly to the ground for shipping and storage purposes.

If you want to raise the stand you have to follow these instructions:

  1. Lock steering in central position and engage wheel lock (parking brake) at one end only.
  2. Remove main lock pin (2 positions each axle)
  3. Raise stand, insert main lock pin and secure with safety pin (2 pos. each axle). Raise stand fwd and rear end simultaneously, or fwd at first!
  4. When main lock pins are installed open pump valve to relieve pressure of hydraulic-system.

If you want to lower the stand you have to follow these instructions:

  1. Lock steering in central position and engage wheel lock (parking brake) at one end only.
  2. Raise stand slowly until main lock pins are unloaded.
  3. Remove main lock pin (2 pos. each axle). Do not place it under the stand frame. Attention: keep feet clear when lowering the stand!
  4. To lower the stand open pump valve gradually, until stand starts to slowly lower. Lower stand fwd and rear end simultaneously, or rear at first!
  5. Store main lock pin into corresponding hole (4 pos.)

There are qty 2 manually operated wheel parking locks (dets 67, 70, 71, 82, 83, 95, 111) qty 1 on each axle. These must be put into the lock position when the stand is parked or stored unattended to prevent any inadvertent movement.

It is important to note that before any controlled movement or towing operations these locks must be retracted into the unlock position or serious damage to the running gear/steering mechanism

may occur. There is a yellow warning label adjacent to each lock (WARNING RETRACT WHEEL LOCKS ON BOTH AXLES BEFORE TOWING).
